Patrick Modiano is a French author. He is considered as one of the most famous of his generation.

Patrick Modiano, laureate of the 2014 Nobel Prize in Literature

Thursday, 9 october 2014, The Nobel Prize is awarded to Patrick Modiano “for the art of memory with which he has evoked the most ungraspable human destinies and uncovered the life-world of the occupation”.

Patrick Modiano is the 111th laureate of the Nobel Prize in Literature. This prize is annually awarded to a writer who has produced ”in the field of literature the most outstanding work in an ideal direction” (Nobel).

In 2013, the Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded to the Canadian author Alice Munro.

Biography 

The encounter of the author with the work, Zazie dans le metro, is a crucial moment in the life of the author. The author introduces Patrick Mondiano to the literary scene and puts him in contact with the publication house, Gallimard.

In 1967, Mondiano publishes his first novel« La Place de l’Étoile » with Gallimard, a novel that is awarded with the prestigous prize Roger Nimier. A few years later, his work, « Rue des boutiques obscures » is published and wins the Prix Goncourt in 1978.

More recently, Patrick Modiano recieves the Paul-Morand Grand Prix for literature in 2000 for lifetime achievement. Also in 2010, he receives the global grand prize from the Foundation Simone and Cino del Duca for his lifetime achievement.

On top of his talents as an author, Modiano has also written for films and in 2000 he became a member of the jury at Cannes.
